AMERICAN VERSE & VESTIGE is a series of over 60 art songs and vocal chamber music settings featuring classic American poetry. The songs aim to celebrate the American experience by bridging together our past and present. At a time when our country is divided and fraught with discourse, these songs add context to our cultural journey and encourage a deeper appreciation for our national identity and the evolution of our American story.
The chronology of poets included in the collection represents 225 years of lived American history (Colonial America through the 20th century, 1748-1973). These songs feature the poetry of historically significant American poets whose words explore the intimate expressions, diverse experiences, and characteristic observances of bygone generations.
A FANFARE FOR THE CELEBRATION OF SPRING
For Bb clarinet solo
A Fanfare for the Celebration of Spring is the opening movement of A Ceremony of Songs for the Celebration of Spring for soprano and Bb clarinet. The Fanfare was a winning entry in the 16th London New Wind Festival- Call for Scores and premiered in London, England on 22nd November, 2013.
SOLILOQUY
For Cello Solo
SOLILOQUY is the 4th movement from the piano quartet for Bb clarinet, violin, cello, & piano titled Memories of Summer. Each movement from the quartet was inspired by a personal recollection from summers past. SOLILOQUY was inspired by the partial eclipse as viewed from Dallas Texas on Aug. 21, 2017. When thinking about the eclipse that was viewed, I felt that the unaccompanied cello was ideal in depicting the spectacle of heavenly bodies in motion. SOLILOQUY would be a great way to open a recital or as a program's intermezzo.
